CHIEF
CHIEF is an Israeli fine art photographer based in Tel Aviv. He photographs and edits his work exclusively on iPhone, exploring light, reflection, movement and unexpected encounters in the city, by the sea and through the human figure.
It began with a photograph of his daughter
CHIEF began photographing his daughter when he got his first iPhone. Through those everyday moments, he fell in love with its camera and its possibilities. He gradually took that practice outside the home, into the streets and onto the shoreline, continuing to work with the iPhone.
The iPhone remains his tool for both photography and editing. Observation, timing and direct encounters with the world shape the work.
Photographic practice
His work moves between street photography, seascapes, portraits and fine art studies of the human figure. Through natural light, perspective and reflections, familiar places and ordinary objects take on an unexpected presence. His practice is rooted in direct photographic encounters rather than digitally constructed scenes.
Exhibitions and recognition
CHIEF won the “Photos of the Season” photography competition associated with Big Brother Israel. Dated exhibition notices published in 2014 document the award. The historical exhibition FANTASEA explored the sea, the desert and inspiration drawn from Salvador Dalí; it is one chapter in a practice that continues through the current series shown here.
Published photography
His work and photography have appeared through Channel 13, Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth, N12, Mako, Maariv, Walla, Israel Hayom, Time Out and Artsy. The Tel Aviv–Yafo Municipality has published his photographs on its official social channels since 2013.
